On Feb. 16 at approximately 10:48 a.m., Chase RCMP received a call from a concerned resident. The resident noted a set of snowmobile tracks leading out onto Little Shuswap Lake which appeared to end at a white and yellow object.
Due to warm temperatures, ice on the lake was melting, raising a concern of someone stranded on the ice. Shuswap Search and Rescue attended with a four-member ice crew who were able to walk to the location. They confirmed that the object was a pile of snow and the snowmobile tracks continued away from the area.
Say cheese
On Feb. 15, staff at the South Thompson Eco Depot located at 1595 Martin Prairie Rd. in Pritchard determined, through surveillance video, that a male entered the premises in the early morning hours and stole several electronic waste items. Chase RCMP are investigating to determine the identity of the suspect.
On camera
On Feb. 17, Chase RCMP received a report of two males entering unlocked vehicles on Juniper Street at approximately 4 a.m. A resident of the street reviewed the surveillance on his property and found it captured two males entering a vehicle at a neighbouring residence.
Unwelcome
On Feb. 17, a resident on Shuswap Chase Creek Road in Chase determined two unknown males attended their residence the night before at approximately 9 p.m. No one was home but the males acted suspiciously by looking in windows. Entry was not gained to the residence and the males left in a green Ford SUV.
Truck found
On Feb. 18 at 2:35 a.m., Chase RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Francois Road. Upon arrival, police found an unoccupied Ford F150. Police contacted the registered owner to ensure the safety of the occupants and were advised the truck had been stolen from a residence on Larch Street.
B & E
On Feb. 19 at 4:34 a.m., Chase RCMP were dispatched to a break and enter at the Underwood Hotel in Chase. An adult female was identified as suspect in this matter, arrested and released with a court date of April 27th, 2017.
Celista stealth
On Feb. 20, Chase RCMP received a report of a Bravo boat leg taken from the owner’s boat on Chasey Road in Celista.
The Chase Detachment is aware of suspicious activities in the area and is increasing patrols using both marked and unmarked police vehicles. We are asking residents to please be aware of any unusual activity in the area and to contact police when it occurs so we may respond accordingly.

Brawl
On Feb. 10 at 9:20 p.m., Chase RCMP were dispatched to a fight in progress at the Chase Plaza parking lot at 305 Brooke Dr. Five individuals were reported to be involved. Two intoxicated males were arrested for Causing a Disturbance. They were lodged in cells until sober and released with a warning against similar behaviour in the future.
Ping pong
On Feb. 19 at 2:24 p.m., Chase RCMP attended a single-vehicle collision on Highway 97 near Barnhartvale Road in Monte Lake. The driver of a grey 2015 Infinity Q50 was southbound on Highway 97 when it lost control. The vehicle slid across the road, striking the barriers on the east side of the road, rebounding, crossing the road again, and striking the barriers on the west side of the road before coming to a stop. No injuries were noted.
Pickup crash
On Feb. 9 at 10:58 p.m., Chase RCMP were dispatched to a single-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway on Jade Mountain west of Chase. The driver of a Sonoma pickup truck lost control, resulting in the vehicle rolling down the embankment. BC Ambulance treated the driver and passenger and released them at the scene.
The Chase RCMP Detachment is reminding drivers that temperature and weather conditions for this time of year create road conditions that can quickly change. Drivers are asked to be watchful for changing road conditions and to drive accordingly.
Vehicle crash
On Feb. 7 at 11:27 a.m., Chase RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Coburn Street and the Trans-Canada Highway. A Ford Ranger attempted to enter the highway and merge with traffic but was struck by an eastbound Dodge Ram towing a boat. No injuries were sustained.
Smash up
On Feb. 7, Chase RCMP received a report of mischief to a vehicle. The vehicle owner advised that after parking their vehicle in a lot on Shuswap Avenue in Chase for the afternoon and early evening, they returned to find the driver’s window smashed.
The vehicle was ransacked but no items of value were kept in the vehicle and nothing was taken.
Glass smash
On Jan. 28, Chase RCMP received a report of mischief to a vehicle. The owner advised they parked the vehicle at the senior centre in Sorrento at 9:45 a.m. When they returned at 12:15 p.m. they found the window had been smashed. No items were noted missing from inside the vehicle.
Foiled theft
On Jan. 28, Chase RCMP received a report of a possible attempted theft of vehicle during the previous night. A resident on Hysop Road in Chase reports finding his vehicle with damage to the ignition, and small items missing from inside the vehicle.
Damage
On the morning of Jan. 29, a resident on Caen Road, Sorrento, awoke to discover that during the previous night someone damaged the interior of his car, including the ignition, leaving it with the hood open and emergency lights flashing.
Minor injuries
On Jan. 15 at 2:03 p.m., Chase RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on First Avenue near Chase Street. Officers determined that a blue car entered the roadway from a parking lot into the path of a white pickup truck. BC Ambulance responded and cared for the drivers who sustained only minor injuries.
Tank taken
On Feb. 8, the Chase RCMP received a report of a theft of an 80-gallon propane tank from the Sorrento/Blind Bay Park in Sorrento.
