Tristen Chernove is a repeat world champion, striking gold twice over the weekend at the Para-Cycling Track World Championship in Los Angeles, successfully defending his titles from last year.

Chernove captured the Men’s C2 1,000 metre time trial with a time of 1:15 seconds, finishing over two and a half seconds ahead of second place.

“Tristen rode very well to win his second title at the Kilo,” said Team Canada head coach Sebastien Travers. “Coming back from a viral infection, he really managed to pull it off, with the help of his personal coach Guillaume Plourde.”

Joining Chernove in the gold medal club was fellow Canadian Ross Wilson in the C1 Time Trial, who won his event with a personal best time of 1:18.9.

Chernove followed up his performance with another gold medal the next day while racing in the C2 Men’s 3,000 metre Individual Pursuit.

He overcame a bit of trouble in the qualifying round, after his foot came loose from his pedal, however, he came back to qualify, and eventually win, the final race with a time of 3:47, posting a seven-second margin of victory over second place.

“For Tristen, his qualifier was a race against adversity; after unclipping at the start, Tristen kept going and was enroute for a Personal Best,” Travers said. “Going against Mauricio Eckard of Spain, Tristen went for the pass, but the Spaniard sped up, forcing Tristen to stay high for four laps, therefore doing a longer distance. Tristen still managed to get the best time, which was the objective. He came back ready for the finals and executed well to secure the title.”
