Cherryville sign knocked out by truck

Cherryville remains open for business, despite its ‘Welcome to Cherryville’ sign being run down

Cherryville remains open for business, despite its ‘Welcome to Cherryville’ sign being run down.

The large wooden sign was mowed down by a truck, hauling a trailer of lumber, Saturday afternoon.

“I think it has to be rebuilt because it was a log structure,” said Eugene Foisy, Cherryville director.

The motorist reportedly lost control and veered onto the shoulder where the sign is located to avoid going over a steep embankment into the river.

No one was injured, and the Insurance Corporation of B.C. is being consulted to gain estimates for a new sign.

“It’s too bad it happened this time of year because we have tourists,” said Foisy of the locally built sign sitting approximately 12 to 14 feet tall and 20 feet wide.

“We want to get it up as soon as we can.”
