SURREY — A mother, father and their three-year-old child were struck by a car as they were crossing 160th Street mid-block in South Surrey on Thursday night.

It happened in the 2700-block of 160th Avenue, at about 8:30 p.m.

Surrey RCMP Staff Sgt. Murray Hedderson said all three were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

“The driver of the car, a 46-year-old resident of Surrey, remained at the scene and is cooperating with police,” Hedderson said. “Alcohol nor drugs appears to be a factor in this collision.

Police ask witnesses to contact the Surrey RCMP at 599-0502.

“Drivers and pedestrians need to be more cautious,” Hedderson said. “Drivers need to be vigilant for pedestrians crossing the road, both in marked crosswalks as well as outside of the crosswalks. Pedestrians are reminded that when crossing the road, that they always cross in well-lit crosswalks, not in the middle of blocks.”

Both pedestrians and motorist should try to make eye contact, he added, and people heading out for a walk should wear bright, reflective clothing so motorists can see them better.
