Got a beef you’d like to air about your neighbourhood or a bouquet to offer?
A series of three public meetings will be hosted by Chilliwack council shortly in Chilliwack’s downtown core, Sardis, and Promontory.
The trio of “Community Engagement Meetings” for 2016 come with the tagline “Your Community Your Voice.” They were scheduled on the heels of the town-hall type meetings held in the more populated sections of town for the first time last year, as well as the rural ones.
Mayor Sharon Gaetz said she noticed there were a lot of new residents who attended the Evergreen Hall meeting last year, who had not met the members of city council, and were concerned about crime and homelessness in Chilliwack.
“At that moment I thought we as a council had to get our more and meet the neighbourhood,” said Gaetz. “We have to show people that we are really proud of our community and we are working hard to make it better.”
She wants citizens to know that council is open to hearing what they have to say.
“As well we’ll update them on the projects we’re working on, and answer their questions about where we’re going in terms of the homelessness action plan.”
Every council member will be in attendance, along with RCMP and Fire Department personnel.
A series of rural community engagement meetings are also being slated for fall 2016 in the communities of Greendale, Rosedale, Yarrow and Ryder Lake.
The goal of the April meetings is to “share information and hear residents’ feedback in urban communities,” according to city officials. “If you have feedback or questions about your neighbourhood, you are encouraged to attend and speak with Mayor and Council.”
The meeting dates and times:
• Thursday, April 14, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Central Elementary School Gym downtown
• Wednesday, April 20, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Tyson Elementary School Gym in Sardis
• Thursday, April 21, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Promontory Heights School Gym on Promontory
