Chilliwack’s first baby of 2014 was born at 3:20 a.m. New Year’s Day.
Andrew John Hayden, born to parents Amber and Andrew, made a speedy entry Jan. 1 weighing in at nine pounds, one ounce.
Andrew is the second child for the Haydens who also have a two-year-old daughter.
Mom Amber started feeling sharp back pains at around 10:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve. She thought she was in for another long labour haul. With her daughter, she was in labour for 21 and a half hours.
But baby Andrew, five days shy of his due date, had other plans.
“It happened very fast, very quickly,” said Amber. “I only pushed for six minutes and he was here.”
Even though Amber’s due date was within a week of New Year’s Day, she never imagined a New Year’s baby.
“I was just ready to not be pregnant anymore,” she said.
The family was enjoying their new addition at home Thursday.
The first baby of B.C., also a boy, was born at Victoria General Hospital at 12:01 a.m. to parents Daisy Tsai and Jason Yen.
