Calleigh Jimmie, 7, of Chilliwack is pretty excited to be one of six winners of the RCMP Musical Ride’s ‘Name the Foal’ contest.
Her mom didn’t think the name ‘Nacho’ was the greatest choice she ever heard for a horse that would one day perform in the RCMP Musical Ride.
But Shauna Jimmie said she dutifully submitted the name by email anyway on behalf of her daughter, Calleigh, in the national contest from the RCMP Musical Ride.
“I tried to convince her to pick something else,” Jimmie remembered with a laugh.
“But she wanted ‘Nacho’ so I just wrote it down and sent it in. It was a good lesson for me to just let kids be kids sometimes, and do their own thing.”
Calleigh was the guest of honour at a ceremony held at the Chilliwack RCMP office on Oct. 21 for winning with her selection of the name ‘Nacho.’
“The RCMP Musical Ride remains a Canadian institution which dates back to the North West Mounted Police,” said RCMP Supt. Deanne Burleigh, Officer in Charge of the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment. “It was a pleasure to meet Calleigh and present to her these awards on behalf of the RCMP.”
Calleigh’s prize package contained:
·A signed Stetson worn during the Musical Ride
·A set of Musical Ride Trading Cards
·A horse and rider leaf pin
·A framed photo of the foal she named
·A certificate signed by the RCMP Commissioner
This year all the foal names had to start with the letter ‘N’ and there are six foals awaiting names at the RCMP Breeding Farm in Pakenham, Ontario. Every spring, the RCMP Musical Ride ‘Name the Foal’ contest asks young people from across Canada to submit original names for their up and coming star performers.
