Chilliwack Heritage Park chosen for cancer ride campout

The Ride to Conquer Cancer has an all-B.C. route with camping overnight in Chilliwack

Chilliwack Heritage Park has been chosen as host venue for the 10th annual BC Ride to Conquer Cancer overnight camp on Saturday, August 25.

Chilliwack officials couldn’t be more excited.

“We are pleased that Chilliwack will play an integral part in the weekend experience,” said Mayor Sharon Gaetz. “We applaud the individuals and organizations that give so generously to raise funds for cancer research in B.C.”

The Ride to Conquer Cancer fundraiser for the BC Cancer Foundation, features a route of more than 200 kilometres covered over two days. The Ride began in Cloverdale in 2009, and finished the next day in Redmond, WA, just north of Seattle.

But for the first time, on August 25 and 26, thousands of cyclists will ride an all-B.C. route from Cloverdale to Hope with an overnight campout in Chilliwack. The majority will camp overnight on August 25 before taking on the second leg of the journey to Hope on August 26.

Chilliwack company Tycrop Manufacturing, headquartered in Rosedale with operations in B.C., Alberta and Texas generously signed on as a corporate sponsor and will also be sponsoring a team in the event.

Tycrop has sponsored teams, riders and actively raised funds for the Ride every year since 2013.

Scott Mason, president and CEO of Tycrop will participate in The Ride to Conquer Cancer for the fifth time.

“Cancer is such a terrible disease that has affected all of us in so many ways. Like so many others involved in this important event, we ride in memory of lost family and friends and we ride to change outcomes for others,” said Mason.

To date, The BC Ride has helped raise over $85.3 million for the BC Cancer Foundation. Funds from The Ride to Conquer Cancer directly support breakthroughs in cancer detection, treatment and prevention at BC Cancer.

The 10th annual Ride will take place August 25 and 26, 2018, and encourages people of all athletic abilities to participate.
