Chilliwack man arrested after terrified woman calls police

The woman was trailed down Yale Road by a man who allegedly tried to lure her into his vehicle

A Chilliwack man suspected of trying to lure a woman into his vehicle has been arrested by RCMP.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 16 the woman was walking in the 46000 block of Yale Road. A vehicle followed her slowly and several times the driver allegedly tried to talk her into getting into his vehicle.

She refused, and escaped to a nearby construction site where she called police.

Based on a description the woman provided, RCMP patrolled the area and quickly found the 37-year-old man and his vehicle.

“Events such as this are disturbing, but the woman involved did the right thing,” said Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Krista Vrolyk. “She remained in a busy, well travelled area and sought help at a public location. She was able to provide investigators with a good vehicle description and a partial licence plate which assisted in the quick apprehension of this suspect.”

The investigation of this incident continues.
