A Chilliwack man who carried a loaded rifle and ammunition through Abbotsford Airport last September has been sentenced to 18 months’ probation and a two-year weapons ban.
James Kreitewolf, 29, previously pleaded guilty to two charges – possessing a firearm without a licence and storage of a firearm contrary to regulations.
Three other charges – possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose, causing a disturbance and possession of a controlled substance – were stayed during sentencing on Aug. 11 in Abbotsford provincial court.
Kreitewolf was arrested Sept. 18, 2016 after an airport rental car employee noticed that a man was carrying a rifle bag.
The worker alerted management, who then called police. Officers ensured nobody entered the building while they looked for the suspect.
Police located Kreitewolf about three minute later in an airport washroom, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Located in his possession was a loaded SKS rifle and ammunition.
Kreitewolf’s sentence from Aug. 11 also includes a charge of theft under $5,000 for a separate incident in Abbotsford on July 31, 2016.
