A return-to-school plan has been released by the Chilliwack School District, and it includes a drastic change to timetables for high schools.

The plan is 48 pages long (see pdf below). It covers everything from busing to library time, locker arrangments to water fountain use, and is the guiding document for this “Stage 2” level of schooling.

The document was released shortly after the Ministry of Education’s provincial plan was announced to the public, on Aug. 26.

In addition to the document, interim superintendant Rohan Arul-Pragasam has recorded a welcome back message for the return to school.

That video is posted on the Chilliwack School District’s website.

Arul-pragasam outlines the priorities for the district, which focus mainly health and safety protocols but also mental and emotional health for students. School will be five days a week, with “100 per cent face-to-face instruction.”

“Not doing so has had a signicifant impact on students’ school success and social emotional wellbeing,” he added.

Parents are instructed to take note of their children’s school’s individual plans, which will be uploaded to each website.

“I want to reassure you we will do all that is required to keep students and staff safe,” Arul-Pragasam said. “I know all staff will pull together for all Chilliwack families.”

Following the announcements, Chilliwack schools began uploading documents outlining their individual plans. At Chilliwack secondary school, Sardis secondary and GW Graham, they are moving to a one-block semester plan. This means students will be taking one class at a time for five weeks, with eight five-week semesters throughout the year. The full details including the timetable for the school are online.
