Chilliwack’s Party in the Park cancelled due to rain

Party in the Park organizers say it's unfortunate they had to make a last minute cancellation but it's for reasons of public safety.

The hugely popular Party in the Park has been cancelled at the last minute due to inclement weather, said PITP committee chair Leanne Adderley.

It’s the first time rain has ever been a significant factor for the community event that routinely attracts thousands to Chilliwack’s downtown.

Singer-songwriter Laurell was set to perform July 20 along with others on the entertainment stage in Central Community Park, but all musicians, vendors and sponsors are being notified about the emergency shut-down of the event.

The rain is expected to continue Friday afternoon with thunderstorms and more rain through the night, which doesn’t mix with all the electrical wiring required for a large-scale outdoor concert.

“We decided to cancel because we were concerned about possible public safety issues related to the the entertainment stage,” she said.

“It’s really unfortunate but we just can’t risk it. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again next Friday as usual.”
