Chilliwack’s weekly COVID case count drops as Abbotsford’s goes up

While case counts are dropping province wide, our closest neighbours to the west defied the trend

While Chilliwack’s COVID case count along with most of the Fraser Valley, Abbotsford’s actually went up in the latest weekly report from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

Our neighbours to the west defied the province-wide trend, and joined Delta as the only municipalities seeing an increase.

Abbotsford’s jump was small, from 489 to 498, but it stayed in the hot-spot zone of 20-plus cases per 100,000 people.

In Chilliwack, the news was better with a case count of 88 for the period of April 25 to May 1, down from 121 the week before. Chilliwack averaged between 10.1 and 15 cases per 100,000, which puts it in the third worst of the six categories put forth by the BCCDC.

To the east, Agassiz saw an increase from three cases to 10, which isn’t a lot, but is magnified in a community of that size.

Hope had five cases after recording just two the previous week.

Outside of the southwest corner of BC, notable hot-spots still exist in the North and South Peace River and the communities of Fort Nelson and Golden. The numbers are dropping everywhere else, offering more hope for an end to the pandemic.
