Some special elves are ensuring Christmas is a festive time for those in need.
Rob Ellis, with Relish Transport, and Jim Tennant, from Save-On Foods, are putting together a full Christmas Eve meal for Upper Room Mission clients Thursday.
“The community support is wonderful,” said Lisa Anderson, URM’s director of resource development.
Tennant and Save-On are providing the food and Ellis is pulling together the volunteers for the celebration.
“They will do the prep work, cook and do everything else,” said Anderson. “Our volunteers will get Christmas Eve off. It’s such a treat.”
The mission will also be decorated.
About 180 to 200 people are expected to sit down at 4:30 p.m. for roast beef and ham.
“There’s also enough to make sandwiches for a couple of days,” said Anderson.
For many of the clients, the dinner is their opportunity to celebrate Christmas.
“It’s their family,” Anderson said of the people who frequent the agency. “To have dinner and everyone come together, is really special.”
Besides the Christmas Eve dinner, Upper Room Mission will also serve a Christmas Day brunch from 11 a.m. to noon Friday.
