Christmas presents stolen out of vehicle in Vernon

Car window smashed to gain access to box of Christmas presents and personal items left in plain view in 4000 block of 29th Street Sunday

A Grinch has put a damper on Christmas for a Vernon family.

Vernon RCMP responded to a report of a theft from a vehicle Sunday in the 4000 block of 29th Street.

The theft occurred overnight. Stolen from the vehicle was a box of Christmas presents and other person items that were left in plain view.

“The police want to remind everyone that thieves do not take days off or care if they steal your Christmas gifts you left in your car,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “Remember. do not store gifts in your vehicle. Take them home or keep them out of sight.”

Thieves gained entry into the car by smashing the passenger side window.

One gift was later recovered by police.

Molendyk did not have an estimate on the total cost of the gifts taken from the vehicle.

Anybody with any information on the theft is asked to call the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
