Ready to compost the Christmas tree?
Whatever you do, don’t just huck it into the alley, which was the custom in Chilliwack in past years.
For the first time, Chilliwack curbside customers are asked to place the trees, cut in sections, out at the curb or in the alley, from now until Jan. 10, on their regular collection day.
“Please do not place whole Christmas trees in your Green Cart,” according to a City of Chilliwack notice.
Christmas trees must be cut into four-foot long, four-foot wide sections, to a maximum 25 kilograms or 55 pounds per section.
As usual, trees with tinsel, flocking, ornaments, or bagged will not be accepted and should be taken to the Bailey Landfill.
For those in the community who require drop-off options, they can bring up to four trees at the Parr Road Green Depot and make a food or cash donation to the Salvation Army, but donations are not required. The depot is open for tree dropoff from Dec. 30 to Jan. 11, winter hours, Monday to Saturday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Parr Road Green Depot, 45175 Parr Rd.
Anyone with a tree to recycle is also welcome to attend Christmas tree chipping, as a fundraiser for 1725 Chilliwack Army Cadets, on Jan. 4, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Garrison Save-On Foods
