It was mostly dry and sunny in Ashcroft last Friday, compared to the buckets of rain the region has received in recent weeks – almost perfect for a visit by the judges for Communities in Bloom.
This is the Village’s third year of competing at the national level, after winning the provincial Communities in Bloom in 2008.
Ashcroft is being judged in the 1,501-3,000 population category along with Chetwynd; Dawson City, Yukon; Harrison Hot Springs; Montague, PEI; Killarney-Turtle Mountain, Man.; and Unity, Sask.
Communities in Bloom judges Lorna McIlroy from Grande Prairie, Alta.and JoAnne Dunphy from Souris, PEI were in Ashcroft on July 22.
Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility, beautification and to improving quality of life through community participation and a national challenge.
The results will be announced at the 17th National Awards Ceremonies, hosted this year by the National Battlefields Commission in Quebec City, Que. on Oct. 29.
