While the cause is officially unknown, a discarded cigarette is a possible culprit behind a grass fire in Lavington Wednesday.
The small blaze broke out on the side of Buchanan Road shortly before 12:30 p.m. between two properties.
Lavington firefighters were quick to extinguish the blaze with shovels and water.
While the cause is unknown, the proximity to the road points to possibly cigarettes.
“It was right along the side of the road,” said Lavington Fire Chief Marty Wright.
The grass wasn’t too dry thanks to some rain the night before, but Wright warns that warmer conditions could have resulted in a different situation.
“It could’ve take up on the hill.”
