Longtime Creston volunteer and former Prince Charles Secondary School teacher Phil Thomas was named Creston’s 2012 citizen of the year at last night’s opening stage show for the 71st annual Creston Valley Blossom Festival. Many community contibutions were cited, including his work with the Creston Golf Club and support of the valley’s youth.
The stage show, which was hosted by Dave Handy, also included the presentation of the six contestants in the GoGo Grannies 50-Plus Gentleman’s Challenge, which runs today, and concerts by the Velle Weitman Trio (Velle and Aaron Weitman, and Julie Matthews) and Canadian Country Music Association award winner Wendell Ferguson.
