Langley RCMP’s volunteer Citizens Patrol, often referred to as the detachment’s eyes and ears, make a significant impact in the effort towards safer streets.
During the night of Friday, June 14, Citizens Patrol volunteers were out patrolling. Partway through their patrol they located a vehicle parked with stolen licence plates.
Officers responded, confirmed the plates were stolen and that the vehicle was uninsured.
A short while later they located a second vehicle with stolen licence plates. Officers attended and their investigation revealed that the vehicle had been stolen three days earlier from the Aldergrove area, said Const. Craig van Herk.
Next, the patrol observed a driver with open alcohol.
“Officers responded, the vehicle was stopped and an impaired driving investigation began,” said van Herk.
Citizens Patrol volunteers are trained to observe and report suspicious activity while patrolling in their community using radio communication and observation equipment.
