Canada Post will get some priority mail over its plans to scrap door-to-door delivery.
Vernon council will write the Crown corporation and express opposition to the lack of consultation about moving from residential mail service to community mail boxes.
“There’s been no consultation about these changes and there’s been no opportunity to provide input on the implications,” said Coun. Juliette Cunningham.
It’s not known when door-to-door delivery could end in Vernon and when neighbourhood mail boxes would be installed.
“There are challenges about where the boxes would be located,” said Cunningham.
“If they are on the city right-of-way, there is an issue of maintenance and there’s also litter.”
Cunningham also believes mail boxes could negatively impact traffic flow in some neighbourhoods.
There is also a concern that the mail boxes could be targeted by thieves.
