A permanent greenhouse will be built at Shepherd’s Home Hardware in Armstrong.
The business successfully applied for a development permit and development variance permit that will allow it to build a 51-square-metre greenhouse addition to the west side of the existing commercial building.
“The greenhouse will be a permanent structure used for retailing nursery stock and gardening supplies,” said City of Armstrong planner Hazel Christy in a report to members of council.
“It will replace temporary seasonal structures used in the past for this purpose.”
The greenhouse will consist of a glulam wood frame and acrylic panels. The wood frame will match the existing wood features used on the exterior of the commercial building.
Residential numbers rise
Residential building numbers in the city are nearly double last year’s totals for the same time period.
One building permit was issued in February worth $300,000. Through the first two months, five permits totalling $892,000 have been issues, compared to three in 2015 worth $452,000.
There were no commercial permits issued in February and, so far this year, two permits totalling $140,000 have been issued.
Sign share
The City of Armstrong will reimburse the Township of Spallumcheen $282 for the Armstrong-Spallumcheen Trails Society to install, maintain and repair signage in the Thomas Hayes ecological reserve.
The township approved funding for the full amount of $565. The reserve is located within the boundaries of Spallumcheen but both the township and city are joint leaseholders of the reserve’s Crown land.
The society requested $565 to cover material costs.
