Press release from the City of Grand Forks

The City of Grand Forks is hosting an open house so residents can learn more about plans for Phase Two of the Downtown Beautification Plan. The open house will be held:

Thursday, February 20

2pm to 6pm

Gallery 2, 524 Central Avenue, Grand Forks

Council members and staff will be on hand to answer questions, plus the public can complete the feedback form with their thoughts on enriching downtown Grand Forks, creating a more vibrant and inviting area for residents and visitors.

Through the Downtown Beautification Project, we want to build on the livability and quality of life in our community by making the downtown a focus for investment opportunity and tourism attraction. Downtowns are the vital social and economic engines of many communities,” says Mayor Brian Taylor.

Phase One was completed last spring along Market Avenue. The project included hanging baskets and planters, upgraded lighting, new garbage and recycle bins, new bench seating and painted crosswalks. Starting in the spring, work will be completed on Market Avenue and will begin on 72nd Avenue and 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Streets with new benches, improved lighting, bike racks, hanging baskets, painted crosswalks, landscaping and planters.

We were very pleased with the feedback we received from residents last spring. We asked to hear from the public on what we can do to beautify our downtown core and we’re taking a lot of that feedback and putting it into action,” adds Taylor.

Additional information on the Downtown Beautification Project will also be posted on our website at www.grandforks.ca.
