Parksville will celebrate National Public Works Week with an open house in Community Park.
The annual week (May 20 to 26) is held to recognize public works professionals
The city will host the open house on May 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with free activities for the whole family and a chance to see some of the important work the department does.
Public works (the city’s engineering and operations staff) is responsible for things like the design, construction, operation and maintenance of roads, street lights, parks, vehicles, the water system and city buildings.
“Our public works staff are responsible for many vital city systems and services on a 24/7 basis, services vital to our community’s health, safety and comfort,” said mayor Chris Burger in a recent news release.
“Public works week gives us the opportunity to thank our crews and recognize that year after year, public works play an essential role in our community’s quality of life and in the daily operations that make our city a better place to live.”
The open house, set up around the picnic shelter, will include demonstrations, displays, refreshments and a chance to explore and ask questions.
