The City of Abbotsford has posted a reminder to avoid flushing certain items.
Items such as disinfectant wipes, baby wipes and paper towels should be bagged and placed in the garbage, the city says.
These items don’t break down quickly enough in the waste-water system and can end up clogging sewers and pipes.
Even products marked as “flushable” might make it down the toilet, but they might not make it through the sewer.
The City of Abbotsford also says that paper towels, paper napkins and facial tissues are temporarily not being accepted in curbside compost and should also be disposed of in regular garbage.
These items should all be bagged and not placed loose in garbage cans.
