The City of Castlegar is going to take a close look at all of its facilities in the near future.
A consultant has been hired to look into the condition of 92 city-owned facilities and make recommendations for necessary repairs or replacements and provide funding scenarios to accomplish the work.
The condition assessments are similar to house inspections — they will assess the structure, roofing, mechanics, electrical, heating, ventilation, cooling, and energy efficiency potential of the facilities.
The city completed asset management plans for roads, water, sanitary and storm systems last year and the last remaining piece is a plan for the city’s facilities.
Everything from a gazebo to City Hall will be examined.
The assessment includes public works, pump houses, water treatment plants, the West Kootenay Regional Airport terminal, the curling rink, the RCMP station, fire hall, library and park facilities.
The city says that by doing these assessments, it will be able to understand what elements of its facilities are in good shape and working well and which will require maintenance. This allows for planning of future costs to avoid increases in taxes.
The $107,000 contract was awarded to Altus Group Ltd.
