Big lineups at the Bailey Landfill have led City of Chilliwack to ask residents to hold onto their waste materials and avoid that trip to the dump for now.
“Today and over the weekend, it appears that many of you decided to work on spring cleaning projects,” said Mayor Ken Popove in his statement of April 15. “While keeping busy at home is important, it is also critical that we do not overwhelm our landfill at this time.”
Traffic control personnel had to be brought last weekend and that will continue to be on-site going forward to help keep traffic moving.
“If you were thinking of making a trip to the Bailey Landfill, I encourage you to wait until a later date if possible,” the mayor stated. “It will help us prevent unnecessary crowding at the landfill and save you from a long lineup.
If long wait times persist, commercial waste haulers may get priority access.
“We know that the landfill is typically busier during warm spring days and we thank you for your patience as we work to ensure continued safe practices at the Bailey Landfill.
They’ve been asking residents to please hold onto any materials. That will leave the landfill more urgent needs, and that request continues to remain in effect.
Residents are also entitled to four free tag-a-bag stickers each year, according to city officials. Depending on the amount of garbage, that could be a good option for some. Call Engineering at 604-793-2787 to receive four free tags or to arrange purchase of additional tags.
