The City of Nanaimo doesn’t have an estimated time for when its new Recreation Nanaimo registration system will be back online.
The city was replacing a 21-year-old system with one from PerfectMind Inc., which accepts online credit card payment. The system launched Wednesday and after experiencing technical difficulties, the city issued a press release offering apology.
Liz Williams, city manager of recreation services, said it was the online payment portal that wasn’t functioning. Customers could fill their online shopping cart, but when they went to process the payment, it was getting “caught up.”
“I don’t really know where the problem was … we have a provider, the provider has other providers that work with the different components of payment. We still don’t know ultimately what the problem was. We have to hear back from our provider. The product that we’re using, it’s PerfectMind software, and that product is working, it’s just the payment that had some glitches yesterday.”

Williams said the city is awaiting for assurances from the provider that yesterday’s issues won’t occur again before it will open the online portal again.
In the meantime, city facilities are open and people can register in person or by calling 250-756-5200.
Williams apologizes for the inconvenience and empathizes with people trying to register yesterday.
“We can certainly relate to their frustration [Wednesday] because it was frustrating for us,” Williams said.
