The City of Nanaimo wants the public’s help as it prepares to launch a new public engagement program.
The city plans to host informal community forums this fall as a pilot project. It’s recruiting citizens for a committee that will help create the new program.
Nanaimo city coun. Jim Kipp, who pitched the initiative last year, said the intent was to further the community engagement and public conversation. Meetings would be regularly scheduled and open-topic and Kipp suggested they would lead to greater transparency, public involvement and collaborative decision making.
The city is now seeking people to join a committee that will work on selecting format and structure options for the initiative which will be taken to the public for feedback, a press release shows. The group will also finalize the structure of the pilot program.
Those who want to participate in the committee can attend the inaugural meeting July 11, from 5-7 p.m. in the Nanaimo City Hall training room. Public feedback sessions will be held July 17, 6-8 p.m. in the Beban Park social centre and July 18 from 9-11 a.m. in room 1 of the Bowen Park activity centre.
