City of Penticton purchases property to continue creek restoration

Penticton purchases land for creek widening

The City of Penticton expanded its property holdings a little bit last week with the purchase of a property on Norton Street.

This particular property borders Penticton Creek. Mitch Moroziuk, director of operations, said a number of properties were identified along the creek that will be needed as the creek restoration project continues. In this case, the property is needed to widen the creek.

“395 Norton was one of the properties that were identified, and it came to the attention of city staff that the property was going on the open market, so we approached the owners,” said Moroziuk. “We negotiated a purchase of that property for $345,000 and took possession on Friday.”

Moroziuk said it was necessary to purchase the entire property.

“When we do the widening, part of the house will have to come down to facilitate that,” he said.
