The top earners at the City of Port Alberni collectively netted an extra $21,324 in 2015 as compared to the prior year. The city released its statement of financial information (SOFI) report that lays out the salaries of all city employees making over $75,000.
Former city manager Ken Watson (still on the payroll in 2016 as a major projects advisor) continued to net the highest salary at $158,736—a one per cent increase from the prior year.
Fire Chief Tim Pley stayed in second place, with a one per cent raise from $110,322 to $111,395.
Four department heads are tied for third highest salaries—city engineer Guy Cicon, city clerk Davina Hartwell, director of community services Theresa Kingston and director of finance Cathy Rothwell. All four made $107,327 in 2015, a one per cent increase from 2014.
The fire hall showed the biggest jump in wages, with fire captains Ed Francoeur, Herbert Nadig, Leslie Norden and fire information officer Randy Thoen receiving seven percent raises, from $96,244 to $103,078.
According to the city, the seven per cent increase in the fire captains’ and fire prevention officer’s salaries can be explained by an extra pay period in 2015 compared to 2014.
“2015 was a 27-pay period year and so included an additional payroll of $3,818 in salary,” city payroll clerk Kelly DeClercq wrote in an e-mail.
