The second phase of an improvement project at Nanaimo’s busiest park is being considered and city officials want to hear from the public what further improvements may be desired.
Maffeo Sutton Park’s original improvement plan was, with considerable public input, created in 2008, with the Spirit Square upgrades completed in 2009.
That plan was developed when Millenium/Suro had been given 2.3 acres of land at Maffeo Sutton Park as incentive to build a conference centre hotel. When the conference centre hotel deal fell through, the land was returned to the city, causing city officials to take a step back and reassess the second phase of the project.
Two public open houses are being hosted by the city to determine what improvement priorities for the park should be. The first is scheduled for Wednesday (Aug. 22) from 4-8 p.m. under the Spirit Tent at Maffeo Sutton, with a second to be held Sept. 11.
For people who can’t make those dates, feedback can be communicated through an online survey at http://svy.mk/N3wpQQ, by talking to a park visitor surveyor in the park during the summer or by e-mailing opinions and suggestions to parks@nanaimo.ca.
