The city of Port Alberni is set to make upwards of $30,000 from selling off their commercial garbage containers.

According to streets superintendent Wilf Taekema, “they’re being sold to Nicklin, Progressive and SunCoast… most of them for $150 (each).”

With the city having had approximately 230 commercial garbage customers before council voted to cancel commercial pickup rather than purchase a new commercial truck in June, that adds up to $34,500.

“[The private haulers] will take as many as we’re willing to offer up but we’ll still have some in place at our own facilities,” Taekema said.
