Terrace city council voted unanimously to support a ban on cosmetic pesticides in the province.
The matter was addressed at a council meeting June 27, with council agreeing to write a letter in support of the BC and Yukon Canadian Cancer Society, who is working to ban cosmetic pesticides in B.C.
The society asked the city to send the provincial environment minister correspondence supporting a ban on cosmetic pesticides this summer.
This provincial ban would involve cosmetic pesticide legislation prohibiting the use, sale or retail display of synthetic, chemical pesticides for lawns, gardens and non agricultural landscaping.
Council passed a bylaw restricting the use of cosmetic pesticides for non-essential purposes in city boundaries during a meeting April 11. The cosmetic use of pesticides is when pesticides are used to enhance the appearance of private lawns and gardens.
