City taxes due

Monday is the big day for people who look forward to paying the tax man

City of Parksville 2011 taxes are due this Monday, July 4 with no extension for delays caused by the postal strike and lock-out that is now over.

The tax notices were sent out May 19, before the strike, to property owners in the city and are now due back at city hall by 4 p.m. Monday to avoid a five per cent penalty.

Taxes can be paid in person at city hall or your financial institution, or through online or telephone banking but be aware of your bank’s processing time. Postmarks or transaction dates will not be accepted as proof of on-time payment.

The Northern and Rural Home Owner Grant (NRHOG) may be claimed online at www.parksville.ca. Or by completing the application on the tax notice and bringing it to city hall. The applications must be completed each year that you are eligible.

The city office is in the Parksville Civic and Technology Centre, 100 Jensen Avenue East. Regular hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. but they are closed today (July 1) for Canada Day. The property tax department is at 250-248-6144.
