  • Apr. 12, 2020 12:00 a.m.

Given the potential health concerns regarding COVID-19, local groups and facilities are taking certain precautions to keep the public safe.

We’ve put together an updated list to keep local citizens informed.

District of Clearwater

The District of Clearwater (DOC) will continue holding regularly scheduled council meetings. Council meetings will be live-streamed on Facebook.

Anyone looking to watch a council meeting can get the agendas at districtofclearwater.com. The agenda goes live no later than 3 p.m. on the Friday prior to a regularly scheduled council meeting.

If someone wants to submit comments or a question in relation to the agenda, please email admin@docbc.ca up until 10 a.m. on the day of the council meeting.

Gateway Grill

Gateway Grill is offering daily specials for $15 and doing takeout and delivery only.

The restaurant opens at 4 p.m. and its full menu is still available with 25 per cent off regular menu items. E-transfers, cash, or credit card over the phone is accepted for deliveries, which are $5 — just call 250-674-8758. The restaurant also now has mobile debit for deliveries. The full menu can be found on the Gateway Grill Facebook page.

Clearwater Pharmasave

Those with prescriptions are asked to pick them up as quickly as possible because the store is receiving an influx and is running out of space to store them. The post office at Clearwater Pharmasave is also now closed Saturdays and Sundays because of a staff shortage.

Rona North Valley Supply

As a means to keep staff and customers safe, Rona has put in place the following safeguards:

Only one customer at a time is allowed into the loading yard. Cough guards are installed at the till and service desks and social distancing lines are clearly marked.

Orders can be made via telephone with a credit card and the goods can be loaded into one’s car by yard staff.

Store hours also changed to Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It’s also asked that customers only touch what they are going to purchase.

Any customers with questions or concerns can contact Deanna at 250-674-3386

The Clearwater Seventh-day Adventist Church

The church at 11 Lodge Drive has suspended services as of March 14 until further notice.

Clearwater Christian Church

The Clearwater Christian Church is now live-streaming services every Sunday at 10 a.m. Those interested can stream the services at www.clearwatercc.ca

Pick either Facebook or YouTube icons at the top right of the page and you will be directed to the page or channel.

Thompson-Nicola Regional District

The TNRD is following the lead of the provincial health officer by asking people to only go to Eco-Depots and transfer stations if absolutely necessary. Minimizing the total number of customers through the gates will better protect staff and customers, and ensure that essential services are maintained.

Disposal of bagged garbage and household recycling is an essential service. For other items, it’s requesting people hold off until normal operations resume.

For those residents of Blue River and Avola – curbside collection will continue following the normal schedule. For other curbside collection programs please contact your municipality. Residents with curbside collection are also being reminded to bag and tie garbage to avoid litter.

Wells Gray Taxi

Wells Gray Taxi is also making changes to keep everyone safe. The changes will be effective until further notice.

That taxi service will open at 11 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. Monday to Sunday. Passengers are asked to sit in the back seats only with a maximum of two persons per trip.

A barrier has been installed between the front and back seats to protect drivers and customers.

Those who are sick, have flu or flu-like symptoms, travelled out of the country recently, or are under 14 day quarantine period are asked not to use the taxi service.

Call 250-674-1542 and Wells Gray Taxi will deliver most items like grocery, restaurant food, medicine, gas, hardware store items, etc., as long as they’re preordered, packed and ready to pick up.

Wells Gray Taxi also recommends you to travel only if it is essential and please pay cash for delivery of food, grocery, liquor, smokes, etc.
