Clearwater RCMP responded to 52 calls for service over the past week. Just a few of them are highlighted below:

Aug. 27

Clearwater RCMP were advised of a theft and damage to a vehicle up on Tum Tum Rd. near Adams Lake. The complainant, who works for a contracting business out of Kamloops, B.C., attended the Clearwater Detachment to report that sometime over the previous weekend his shop truck had been broken into, windshield smashed in and locks broken on secured cabinets, roughly $6000.00 in merchandise stolen.

The shop truck was parked at 17K on Tum Tum road out of Vavenby B.C. Police continue to investigate.

Aug. 30

A 56 year old Clearwater woman attended the RCMP detachment for a second time and spoke to police about a third theft from their open garage. Police had attended their residence the day before to conduct an investigation on another theft.

While walking the property, the owners’ pointed out a fresh set of tire tracks leading from the highway to the back of their open garage. On this date the complainant advised they left their house the day previous and when they returned they noticed a third set of tracks in the grass.

They checked the garage and noticed more items had been removed, such as old lanterns, air tanks and other sentimental items. The complainant is amazed they committed this theft during broad daylight. Police made a patrol along Highway 5 and located the access gate to this property.

It appears the vehicle approached from the south, opened the gate and drove through the open field to the garage. This would be very visible to the general public and neighbours. The vehicle used for these thefts is likely a pickup due to the location accessed and items taken.

Investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with any information on this theft to contact them or Crimestopper’s.

Aug. 31

At 8:52 p.m., a 28 year-old Clearwater woman reported to police that her husband, and his cousin, were both intoxicated and possibly fighting in the front yard, on Bain Rd, Clearwater, B.C.

She said that her husband’s cousin had been aggressive with him. Police attended and found the cousins outside talking by their vehicles, both with a beer in hand and very intoxicated. Both said that there had been a verbal argument over a family matter.

They said they’d grabbed each other, but that was it. The cousin’s girlfriend attended and drove him home.

Sept. 1

At 9:45 p.m., a 29 year-old Edmonton man reported to RCMP he had run over debris on Highway 5, near Clearwater, B.C., which had damaged his grey 2016 Mazda 3. He had repaired the damage and was able to continue on to Kamloops B.C. He was provided a file number by police dispatch for his insurance company. Police did not attend.

A 59 year-old female passerby from Bridge Lake called the RCMP to report a collision with a moose on Highway 24, about 20km west of Little Fort, B.C. She advised that a pickup truck had hit a moose. The moose had slammed the driver’s side mirror into the side window, shattering it.

The male driver suffered minor cuts a scrapes. He refused medical attention as he was simply going to his nearby cabin. The moose was deceased but had a calf nearby. Conservation was advised of the orphaned calf.

Sept. 3

At 1:15 a.m. a 49 year-old woman called the Clearwater RCMP detachment to report a suspicious vehicle that had been parked in front of the soccer house bathrooms in Clearwater, B.C. The vehicle was described as an orange van, with Alberta plates.

The van had a handicapped placard in the front window and was seen parking around the Splash Park, Buy-Low Foods and the Skate Park. Police were aware of this vehicle and attended and located the orange panel van with Alberta plates. The registered owner, a 51 year-old Calgary man, was not there.

While at the location, a second parent and child pulled up with the same concerns about this van. The owner had previously advised police that he was in town visiting friends in the area and uses the washrooms at the skate and splash park. He is enjoying the area and waterfalls and occasionally stays at local friend’s residences.

Due to the start of school this week, extended parking at these locations will no longer be entertained. Complainant and parents advised of action taken by police. RCMP would like to take this opportunity to remind the public that it’s imperative to secure your residences, vehicles and personal property and effects, and to be cognizant of any suspicious vehicles or persons in your neighborhoods.
