RCMP responded to 54 calls for service over the past week. A few of the more interesting ones are highlighted below:
Sept. 4
At 12:40 p.m. a 71 year-old male attended the detachment to report a hit and run on Clearwater Village Rd. across from the Clearwater Food Bank.
His white Chevrolet truck was legally parked when a brown Ford Explorer backed into it and took off up hospital hill. This was witnessed by another local man who saw the grey haired driver of the Explorer, who he described as roughly 65 years-old and wearing a hat.
Police attended, took photos and provided the complainant with a file number for insurance purposes. It was a clear sunny day with good road conditions.
The complainant’s truck had damage to the rear passenger side box panel. RCMP also noted brown paint transfer. The following day, the witness saw the suspect vehicle registered to a 72 year-old female of Clearwater.
Police went to the location of the vehicle and took photos of the damage to the rear passenger side bumper and also saw white paint transfer. The driver of the Explorer was charged with Fail to Report Accident, unaware it even happened.
After talking with family members, a Request for Review of Medical Fitness to Drive was completed and faxed to the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles, copy to file.
Sept. 6
There are still some honourable people around. A 59 year-old Blackpool resident went to the Clearwater detachment with a wallet full of ID, cards, euros, and $1,170 in Canadian money.
RCMP explained to the finder he could have the cash back in 90 days if no one claimed it. Police looked at the wallet and the owner is from out of country, possibly Spain or Italy.
Due to where the money was found, police called three local businesses that frequent that area with tourists. One owner said one a guest lost a wallet three weeks previous in the area the wallet was found.
He tried to email him to advise his wallet may be found. The following day police received a call from a man identifying himself as the owner of the wallet and cash. He said he’d been contacted by the business owner and called the detachment.
He described the contents of the wallet and the amount of cash. Important information was obtained to proceed with a secure means to return the wallet and money. The owner also helped the arrangement of a reward for the finder of his wallet and money.
Sept. 7
Public Nudity!? A local woman called the RCMP to report an indecent act at the Dutch Lake parking lot in. She said a man in a four door sedan was sitting in his car completely naked, behaving suspiciously.
She said she arrived at the lake, pulled in and saw him get out of his vehicle, fully naked in an ‘excited’ state, then quickly put his shorts back on as he noticed their arrival. Police know this man from previous police interactions. RCMP located him, observing he was wearing only a pair of shorts.
He was sober and said he’d just gone for a swim and denied being nude in public or doing anything suspicious. Police told the man of possible criminal charges or arrest under the Mental Health Act if these events continue.

An 80 year-old Clearwater man was at his property in the 1500 block of the Yellowhead Highway 5 north at 12:15 p.m. when he noticed a vehicle parked on the other side of a building with a man and woman inside, possibly in their 50s.
The property owner approached with his vehicle and parked so the suspects couldn’t leave. The owner asked him what they were doing and the suspect man replied this was his property.
The owner said to the suspect man that, actually, the property was his and told him he was going to write down his licence plate, which was attached to a black Mercedes. The property owner then moved his vehicle and the suspects left the property.
Police continue to investigate this suspicious occurance …
