Robin and Leanne Martens’ garage in the Carey neighbourhood is full of like-new clothes that they are excited to give away to those in need on Saturday.

The couple, who are part of the West Village Church’s soon-to-open Saanich campus, have been collecting clothes with fellow members since January. The event is called Clothesline, and it’s akin to a food bank but with clothing.

The Martens will transport their garage worth of clothing just around the corner to the Scouts Hall on Marigold Road for the Saturday Clothesline, running from 2 to 5 p.m.

“Everyone is welcome, we’ll have things for the kids, snacks, beverages, lots of friendly people, and also free bread people can take home,” Robin Martens said.

The Martens are part of the West Village Church that operates out of the Cineplex Odeon West Shore cinemas in Langford. The group heard about a similar clothing giveaway to Clothesline from a group in Nanaimo and worked with them to “basically do the same thing,” Martens said.

“This is our first time running a clothing giveaway,” said Marten, a church planter with West Village Saanich. “We are a new church, a small group, we are ordinary people doing ordinary things and want to show the community that we are here, that we care and we love our city.”

There are all types of clothing available for infants to adults, and some plus-size clothing as well.

The West Village Saanich church starts on Easter Sunday, April 16, out of Landmark Cinema at University Heights.

Saturday’s Clothesline event runs 2 to 5 p.m. at the Scouts Hall, 505 Marigold Rd.
