Until the end of June, change from the coin boxes at Mid Island Co-op’s Gas Stations are giving a boost to United Way’s efforts to help vulnerable children, isolated seniors and low-income families in our community.
The money from the coin boxes placed at Mid Island Co-ops in Ladysmith, Nanaimo, Gabriola, Parksville, Whiskey Creek, Chemainus, Lake Cowichan and Salt Spring Island will be donated to United Way Central and Northern Vancouver Island (UWCNVI) to be invested back into effective programs in those communities.
“Our members want to support organizations that build long-term change and capacity in our community. We chose United Way because they have a long history of effective community building in the Central Island region,” says Susan Urban, Marketing and Community Relations Manager of Mid Island Co-op.
United Way not only raises money to fund community programs, but also helps research the underlying causes of social issues and bring partners together to find solutions. This year, United Way is investing in 35 programs and projects in the Central Island region, including a place for children at risk to go after school to play sports.
