The Coast Salish Development Corporation (CSDC) has been nominated for a Small Business BC award, and our votes could help them win

CSDC has been nominated for Small Business BC’s Best Community Impact Award and needs as many votes as possible by Nov. 30. You can vote online until the end of the month.

The Best Community Impact Award, sponsored by Vancity, goes to the company that’s truly making a difference in their community, a business that has taken positive action to invest in their community and sees social responsibility as an integral part of the business’ success, according to a press release from CSDC.

CSDC is a for-profit, economic development agency for the Stz’uminus First Nation. The company was established in 2009 with the intention of bringing the Stz’uminus First Nation to a place of economic independence and self-sufficiency. Since then, CSDC has, through reforming existing business operations and accessing new opportunities, earned in excess of $7 million for Stz’uminus, with projections for the next five years reaching upwards of $20 million, according to CSDC.

In 2012, CSDC entered into an award-winning joint venture with FortisBC on the Mt. Hayes LNG facility on Stz’uminus Land. In addition to the economic benefits, CSDC has ushered Stz’uminus First Nation through the First Nations Land Management adoption process, which gives the nation full control over their reserve lands and the ability to develop those lands.
