The Coats for All program is running again and it is collecting coats and other warm outerwear throughout November for people in the community who need them.
Group spokesperson Wendy Hamblin says it is a shared project by the St. Timothy’s Anglican Church and 100 Mile United Church Joint Outreach Team.
“Donors often feel happier themselves because they know that a good item they cannot use is going to make such a big difference in someone else’s life.”
She asks folks to dig through their closets and storage and find warmer outer clothing, including coats, toques, warm hats, gloves, mittens, scarves or thick sweaters, wash them if possible, mark them as cleaned or not cleaned, and then drop them off.
“We start accepting donations at 100 Mile Laundromat on Oct. 30 [today], until Nov. 28.
“Then, people in need of clothing will be able to get it at the distribution points by Nov. 5.”
The end date for pickup will depend on how long supplies last.
She notes laundromat owner Andrew Hofmarks will once again generously donate his time in the collecting, and cleaning of any clothing that need it.
Distribution sites are Loaves and Fishes Outreach, Ministry of Children and Families, 100 Mile House Food Bank, Canim Lake Band, South Cariboo Health Centre, Canadian Mental Health Association-South Cariboo, Youth Zone, Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre, Canoe Creek Band, and some public schools (upon request).
A distribution for the broader community happens on Nov. 22, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at 100 Mile United Church.
