A drug bust at a downtown Vernon apartment resulted in the arrest of a woman familiar to the local RCMP detachment.
Members of the Vernon Drug Unit executed a search warrant Friday at an apartment in the 3000 block of 37th Avenue result from a cocaine trafficking investigation.
“Our officers located 30 grams of power cocaine and 21 grams of crack cocaine packaged for sale,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “They also located smaller amounts of methamphetamine, ecstacy and oxycodone (a drug similar to morphine in its effects).”
Two women, both 23, were arrested in close proximity to the apartment.
One of them was known to officers as she is alleged to have sold cocaine to an undercover police office in September 2012 and a warrant had been issued for her arrest.
Molendyk said the woman was stopped in a traffic check on Jan. 25 near Princeton where 95 individually packaged amounts of crack and suspected oxycodone pills were seized (Morning Star, Feb. 1, 2013).
“She had been released on both files with conditions,” said Molendyk. “During her arrest on Feb. 15, she was found to be breaching one of her conditions.”
The suspect was being held for court and was slated to make a court appearance Monday.
The second suspect has been released on a number of conditions to appear in court at a later date.
Molendyk said the 30 grams of powder cocaine would have had significant value on the Vernon streets.
