Despite beautiful clear blue skies over Quesnel today (Sept. 11), Environment Canada is predicting a chance of wet flurries tomorrow, marking the first forecast of snow this fall.

The provincial weather organization is predicting rain showers or wet flurries with a high of 6 degrees tomorrow (Sept. 12), as well as forecasting flurries or rain showers on Sunday Sept. 16 with a high of 11 degrees Celsius.

The remainder of the week will include chances of showers, other than Thursday, which Environment Canada predicts will be a mix of sun and cloud.

Overnight lows this week will see the potential for freezing temperatures, with Wednesday night predicted to be the coldest, at -3 degrees, with overnight flurries.

The lowest recorded temperature in Quesnel on Sept. 12 between 2005 and 2009 was 4.1 degrees Celsius in 2009, according to Environment Canada statistics.

Environment Canada has also issued a weather alert for Highway 97’s Pine Pass. A snowfall warning is in effect for the highway in the North Peace River region for tonight, Sept. 11. Between two and four centimetres of snow is predicted to fall in the North Peace area.

Winter tires are required on local routes from Oct. 1.
