Colder weather in the forecast for Cariboo Chilcotin beginning Saturday evening

Snow flurries could arrive as early as Sunday in Williams Lake, Saturday evening in the Chilcotin

There is a nip in the air Friday morning in Williams Lake with a present temperature of 0.4C and judging by the long-range forecast it will be getting cooler as the weekend unfolds.

Friday’s highs are listed at 13C by Environment Canada with lows of 0C in the evening and as low as -5C for Saturday evening.

Snow or rain is in the forecast for Sunday through Wednesday, and with October 1 on Monday, people should be thinking about getting their winter tires on if they haven’t already.

According to Environment Canada’s Puntzi Mountain weather station west of Williams Lake, the forecast is similar with highs of 16C for Friday, lows of -3C in the evening and -2C for Saturday evening, with a chance of flurries, snow or rain from Saturday evening into Tuesday.

As fall unfolds, the hours of daylight are decreasing and it seems timely that Environment Canada is reminding Canadians of its call to help develop a national strategy for an environmentally sound disposal of lamps that contain small amounts of mercury.

The public consultation began in November 2017 and will close on Nov. 1, 2018.

Citizens are encouraged to share their thoughts.
