Coldstream accident results in significant injuries

Incident occurred on forestry road leading to Becker Lake

Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson, says a motorist may have sustained spinal and head injuries during an accident in Coldstream Sunday.

Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson, says a motorist may have sustained spinal and head injuries during an accident in Coldstream Sunday.

A Vernon resident is in serious condition after a motor vehicle accident in a rural area Sunday.

An 18-year-old man possibly sustained spinal and head injuries after his Nissan Pathfinder left the Coldstream Forestry Road and collided with a tree at about 7:50 a.m.

It’s believed the Nissan swerved to miss another vehicle at the four-kilometre mark on the road, which goes through Noble Canyon to Becker Lake.

“It appears that speed was a contributing factor in the crash,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

Lavington firefighters were needed to remove the 18-year-old driver from the Pathfinder, while two passengers — an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman — did not sustain major injuries.

The trio had been camping in the area overnight.

The accident continues to be under investigation, and Molendyk says charges are possible under the Forest Service Act, which governs forestry roads.
