There were some significant injuries during a multi-vehicle collision in Coldstream.
Three people were taken to hospital after four vehicles collided on Highway 6, near the King Edward Lake Road, May 31 at about 3:40 p.m.
In one case, the 58-year-old Vernon man driving a Ford Econoline van sustained a broken jaw, hip, wrist and other injuries.
“He’s expected to recover,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.
A 38-year-old Lumby woman suffered whiplash while a 61-year-old Coldstream man sustained a broken rib and bruising.
The incident occurred when an eastbound vehicle was stopped on the highway and preparing to make a left-hand turn into a gravel pit.
At the same time, a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass operated by the Lumby woman approached the vehicle that was turning and she had slowed down from about 60 kilometres per hour. As she did this, her vehicle was struck from behind by a 2007 Ford 5-150 operated by the Coldstream man.
The force of the impact led the Cutless to spin forward and strike the stopped Chevy pickup, which then crossed the centre line diagonally and hit the 1992 Ford Econoline van.
The Jaws of Life were needed to remove the driver from the van.
“The roadway was clear and dry and alcohol is not believed to be a factor,” said Molendyk.
The Coldstream man was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention.
