Coldstream is ringing in the holiday season by spreading the joy of Christmas to its community.
Festivities at the ninth annual Community Christmas Light Up get underway Sunday at 6 p.m. at Coldstream Christian Church.
The family-friendly event includes a live nativity, activities for the kids, free hot dogs, popcorn, prizes and draws, Farmer Val’s petting zoo, a bonfire courtesy of the Coldstream Fire Department, Vernon Vipers and Sniper, Queen Silver Star royalty, music from Coldstream Elementary and the church choir, special guest Jodi Pederson performing and the lighting of the tree.
“Of course Santa and Mrs. Claus will be here and their elves,” said Kelsey von Holst, event organizer.
The event is free, but donations of food and money for the Salvation Army food bank will be collected.
Since 2008, the food bank has seen record levels of clients accessing the service, therefore all donations make a difference.
“The community events that are coming up are vital including this one,” said David MacBain, community ministries director with the Salvation Army.
Those wondering what to give are asked to consider non-perishable staples such as tomatoes, rice, pasta and proteins such as peanut butter.
“Basically what you build a meal around,” said MacBain.
Those pulling from their cupboards are also reminded to check dates and ensure expired goods aren’t donated.
The church is located at 9904 Kalamalka Road.
