Part of $17 million in funding announced for public post-secondary institutions last September has been earmarked for students of the College of the Rockies.

Over $1.1 million for mining truck haul simulators (and a truck and trailer to transport the equipment between campuses) will be almost evenly split between the B.C. government ($580,000) and the Columbia Basin Trust $560,000).

“This is an important program as it addresses two needs,” said Neil Muth, Columbia Basin Trust president and CEO in a press release. “The need of basin employers to find trained labour, and the need of basin residents to be qualified for local jobs. Congratulations to the College of the Rockies for leading this initiative and helping to foster the economic well-being of our region.”
