The College of New Caledonia (CNC) Board of Governors has voted not to increase tuition costs for next year.
The decision came as the board met in Quesnel last month, when they voted against a two per cent increase which would have brought an estimated $119,000 towards the 2011-12 budget.
Not increasing tuition potentially means a larger operating fund deficit for the institution, possibly in the $1.8 million range.
This won’t impact the Fort St. James campus, however, as the regional campus in FSJ operates on a cost-recovery basis.
Instead, the decision means students locally will benefit from the tuition freeze, without impacts to programs or services.
“We don’t foresee any changes here at this campus,” said Ann McCormick, Campus Supervisor.
A board meeting April 29 will attempt to address the issue for the college as a whole.
